| Montana Digest, Wednesday, September 15, 2004 "Grain lab boss dies of lung cancer" |
GREAT FALLS - Sharon Campbell, chief of the State Grain Laboratory in Great Falls, died of lung cancer Monday at her home in Black Eagle after a long illness. Campbell, 50, was a 25-year employee of the Montana Department of Agriculture. She was to receive a Governor's Award for Excellence in Performance on Sept. 22. The citation for the Governor's Award says, in part: "Sharon's excellent management and supervisory skills ensure that the laboratory is run in an efficient and professional manner. As the only federally licensed grain laboratory in Montana, the lab performs a critical function in the marketing of Montana's wheat, barley and other small grain crops. Sharon's exceptional leadership of the lab has resulted in consistent excellent ratings from the federal government during annual performance audits." Campbell began work at the State Grain Laboratory in 1979 as an accounting clerk. She was licensed to grade wheat, and worked her way up to administrative assistant and acting bureau chief. She was awarded the Montana Department of Agriculture Employee of the Year in 1991. She was appointed to her current position as State Grain Laboratory bureau chief in January 1996. |
