At their February meeting, the Transportation, Elevator, and Grain Merchants Association selected AAGIWA member and past president Greg Hoelck of Hastings Grain Inspection to sit on their board directors as an associate board member. Greg will serve a two year term. TEGMA is the national association representing terminal grain elevator operators, unit train shippers, transportation companies and others involved in grain marketing.

California’s Sandy Newell was named chairman of the Grain Quality Workshop at their meeting in Washington, DC last week. Elected chairman was Steve Bakus of the American Farm Bureau Federation.

We must sadly report that Ron Cates, Field Office Manager of the FGIS’s League City Field Office passed away Monday after a battle with leukemia. His life will be celebrated at the First Baptist Church in Onalaska, Texas Saturday at 2:00 pm. He is survived by his wife Penny, who has requested that any memorials be made to the M.D. Anderson Clinic, P.O. Box 297153, Houston, Texas 77297.
