AAGIWA

The Who, What and Why of AAGIWA:

The accurate and consistent inspection and weighing of agricultural products grown and traded in the United States of America is vital to the bottom line of the producer, merchandiser and buyer alike. The American Association of Grain Inspection and Weighing Agencies is the national trade organization of federally licensed private inspection agencies, official state agencies, their affiliates and suppliers. It is the members of AAGIWA that insure the availability of dependable and precise grain inspections nationwide.

AAGIWA has served it's members for over 40 years, providing a forum for cooperation between designated and delegated official agencies and the Federal Grain Inspection Service of the USDA. Membership in AAGIWA is voluntary, yet many private and state inspection agencies choose to belong. By their association, these organizations and others joining the ranks of AAGIWA fund its objectives, knowing the benefits will come back to them many times over.

AAGIWA and its members serve in many different capacities, always striving to develop and expand communication between representatives of our industry, the grain trade and the Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration. For over a decade AAGIWA has had representation at such important meetings as that of the Grain Quality Workshop and has had members appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture to serve on the very important GIPSA Grain Inspection Advisory Committee. Recently AAGIWA hosted a unique joint industry meeting sharing the program with GIPSA officials, further enhancing the spirit of cooperation.

Membership to AAGIWA is available in any one of five different categories. Private agencies federally licensed under the auspices of the United States Grain Standards Act pay dues based on the annual volume of inspections performed by their agency. Likewise, the number of annual inspections Official State agencies complete determine their membership fees. Other AAGIWA membership categories whose dues are a set fixed rate, are the affiliate membership, supplier of goods or service members and national sponsors.
