Colleagues Mourn Loss of Edwin Matchey, a long time member of AAGIWA

Members of AAGIWA were saddened to hear of the death of Edwin Matchey, a member of AAGIWA for many years, a grain inspector in North Dakota at Jamestown Grain Inspection for 14 years, and current owner of Lewiston Grain Inspection in Idaho.

Edwin passed away in Jamestown on July 6th. He and his wife Edythe where in North Dakota attending a class reunion when he was struck with a heart attack.

1938-2003

Funeral services for Edwin Matchey were held July 7, 2003 at 2 p.m. Monday at the Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, North Dakota. A second service was held in Lewiston, Idaho on July 9th, with arrangements by Vassar Rawls Funeral Home. Burial was at the Norman Hills Cemetary in Lewiston.

The family asks that gifts in memory of Edwin benefit the Jamestown Hospital, 419 5th St. NE, Jamestown, ND 58401.

Edwin Matchey, 64, Lewiston, Idaho, formerly of Jamestown, North Dakota died Sunday, July 6, 2003 at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown, North Dakota. Ed was born July 12, 1938 in Jamestown, the son of Phil R. and Birgit E. (Rutgerson) Matchey. He attended school in Spiritwood and Jamestown, graduating from Jamestown High School. After graduation he worked for Montgomery Wards. He also worked as a grain inspector in Jamestown from 1958 to 1971. In 1971 he moved his family to Lewiston, Idaho. Ed purchased Lewiston Grain Inspection in January 1972 and was still operating it at the time of his death. He married Edythe A. Haskin on October 16, 1959. He retired with 20 years of service with the ND & ID National Guard.

He was a member of the AAGIWA. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, especially taking them camping, hunting and fishing. His family gave him his greatest pleasure. He also enjoyed his special fishing and hunting trips with his family. Ed is survived by his wife, Edythe, three daughters, Debby (Steve) Daulton, Irrigon, OR and Donna Wenstrom and Diana Carpenter, Lewiston, ID and one son, Joe (Anita) Matchey of Juliatta, ID, daughter-in-law, Shannon Matchey, Boise, ID, 14 grandchildren, two sisters, Romelle (Tom) Manske, Waldport, OR and Phyllis Zentner, Topeka, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Robert, one brother, Robert and a brother-in-law, Joe Zentner.
