AAGIWA Members Saddened by Passing of Maxine "Mickie" Slater |

Members of AAGIWA were saddened to hear of the death of Mickie Slater, widow of Joe Slater and mother of Dave Slater, of Eastern Iowa Grain Inspection. Mickie and Joe were active members of AAGIWA and attended many meetings until Joe's passing. Those of us who knew her will miss her, and I hope you will all join me in saying a prayer for her and for her family. |

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Maxine P. "Mickie" Slater, 80, were held January, 8, 2003 at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Blue Grass, Iowa. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Buffalo, Iowa. Visitation was 4-8 p.m. January 6th at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, where a prayer service will be offered at 7 p.m. Additional visitation was 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew Church. Maxine died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. Maxine P. Panek was born May 31, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Joseph and Elizabeth (Yanda) Panek. She married Joseph L. Slater Sr. on May 24, 1947, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Her husband preceded her in death Sept. 15, 1994. She was a charter member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Blue Grass. She loved the outdoors, traveling, gardening and spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren. Memorials may be made to St. Andrew Catholic Church. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph L. and Pamela Slater Jr., Long Grove, Iowa, and David P. and Kandice Slater, Davenport; grandchildren, Weston, Brennan, Kayleigh, Joey and Mackensie; a sister, Rose Marie Kopernik, Marion, Iowa; and sisters-in-law, Mary Panek, Lisbon, Iowa, and Joan Miller, Buffalo, N.Y. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; an infant brother, Frederick; a sister, Mary Magdelene "Mig" Boston; and a brother, Joseph Panek.
